why i am so devoted to nikon?
because my first camera is Nikon FM2 - the first single lens reflex camera. It is a pure manual camera, by pre manual, it means i have to set the focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and everything within the seconds when doing shooting. It's been a terrific experience. With such manual setting in every shoot, now I could tell you this is ISO 400, F2.8, 1/60 under the evening ...and it's ISO100 F8, 1/250 under sunlight, without any metering tool or digital camera in hand.
there had been so many new changes in camera history. The introduction of auto-focus (making everything auto and easy), the digital format..But Nikon keep insist to the manual -focus camera line - FM series and F3. And actually they continue to put technology investment on the manual focus camera and bring out FM3a. Furthermore, they have been so committed to customer, and refuse to change the lens -ring. So basically, you could use your 20 years manual focus lens on any nikon camera body, including digital camera as well. It has been a very very big compromise, and lens design is limited by the historical ring design. Sill Nixon is willing to make the commitment to it's loyal customer. It's just too easy to put a STOP signal, and start everything completely new - like the Canon EOS system, Olympics E system, but it's not easy to keep embracing the old products and continue to innovate while taking care of the legacy system.
i still miss my "stolen" Nikon FM2....should buy it back in the second hand market...and i still loves nikon as usual.
